Image Consultants

Let's face it, ladies and gentlemen, we're in a recession. The job market is tight. Competition is fierce. This is as true here in Saskatoon as it is in New York City. We can no longer just walk into a factory boss's office with barely a year of high school to our names and come out with jobs involving metal shears. Now we need training, we need experience, we need the edge over the competition. Like it or not, many potential employers judge you the moment you enter their offices for the interview simply based upon the clothes you're wearing.

If you don't know what image you're projecting or want to improve your image, you might consider hiring an image consultant to work with you before you go for the interview at Home Health Care BC. If you've been to a lot of interviews and haven't gotten the job, you're a prime candidate. We'll tell you all about what you can expect from an image consultant here.

Image consulting is a branch of fashion design. In other sectors image consultants are also known as a wardrobe consultants or a fashion advisors. While "fashion advisor" conjures up images of models on the runway and "wardrobe consultant" sounds like a job in the costume department of a movie shoot, "image consultant" is more like an offshoot of a company that does Winnipeg resumes, cover letters, and interview prep. It's a person that teaches you how to look professional.

If you're looking for an example about what an image consultant might do for you, watch an episode of the television show What Not to Wear. The consultants on that show spend most of their time teaching clueless clients how to dress in a way that simultaneously flatters their bodies and is appropriate for the kind of work they're doing. For example, if you work with Democracy Now and you currently wear jeans and t-shirts to work, an image consultant might advise you to wear more suits and business clothing to appear more professional.

An image consultant isn't there to change your personality or your physical looks. They won't be sending you to a cosmetic dentist in Mississauga (unless, of course, you're an orthodontist with bad teeth). They'll be teaching you to dress in a way that will create the right impression in an employer's mind. Services of a professional consultant can be expensive (perhaps several hundred dollars) but certain charities, like Dress for Success, also provide similar services to those in need for free.
