Saskatoon is recognized as one of the world's leading Agricultural Biotechnology centres.
The University of Saskatchewan provides a large amount of employment to the city. The campus is home to the Canadian Light Source, which is the largest scientific project completed in Canada in over 50 years. The 179 million dollar project resulted in a national synchrotron radiation facility that is used for world-class scientific research in many different categories.
The world's largest publicly traded uranium company, Cameco, and the world's largest potash producer, PotashCorp, have corporate headquarters in Saskatoon. Nearly two-thirds of the world's recoverable potash reserves are located in the Saskatoon region.
